Have you ever been so interested in something that you yearn to be around that something all the time? Let’s take boats for example. When I was young and had just first found my interest in boats, I wanted to surround myself with anything and everything about boats.
It didn’t matter if they were toys, magazines, TV shows, and even books. I wanted it to fill up my life.
Let’s take a look at several nautical novels that both boat enthusiasts and ordinary people will enjoy.
The Perfect Storm
The first book on our list is The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger. We’re sure you have heard or even seen this movie starring George Clooney. The story follows the Andrea Gail boat and its crew as they go out for a late fishing expedition to earn more money for the season.
Unable to find a big bounty, they go out way beyond where they usually go to. Unfortunately, though a storm was waiting for them. A perfect storm, if you will.
What follows is a tale of danger and bravery against nature’s wrath. This book is based on a true story and a good reminder to respect Mother Nature.
Probably not the best book to read while on a boat though.
The Sea-Wolf
Next up, we have The Sea-Wolf by Jack London.
This book is all about a person who is rescued at sea. However, as the saying goes he went out of the frying pan and into the fire.
When the protagonist was saved from the raging sea, he was challenged by so many other factors. A ship captain that was out to get him. Rival on the boat. Mutinies and even shipwrecks.
This book is the essence of man vs. nature and is one of the best books about the sea and boats of all time.
